FNB JOBURG ART FAIR 2017

ROBIN RHODE

September 2017 a time in my life I will not forget. Together with Maxime Scheepers we put on a live performance Directed and curated by Robin Rhode. The piece is called "The Fate of Destiny" and it was performed at the Sandton Convention Center in Johannesburg over 4 days. It took us weeks of rehearsals to get used to working in such an intricate sculpture. Robin had decided to script the performance around four poems by Gladys Thompson and James Matthews. The poetry was banned by the Apartheid Government about 50 years ago. Gratefully it was not lost. We had the honour pf staging the text under the direction of Robin Rhode. I Have worked with Robin for many years and this was the first time we put on a live performance in Johannesburg (our home city).I was vchallenged physically and vocally but I can happily say that we pulled it off. The Idea was to move people visually and tell story through poses and body movements. It was quite and experience. One that I will not forget.
